Surya means sun.
Actually the Sun should be the god.
Why I say he is the god. One example I tell you. You take some seed. Dry the seed in the hot sun even at 50 degrees Centigrade. Plant the seed in rainy season or plant and water them. The seed sprout.
Next you take some seed. Fry the seed at same 50 degrees Centigrade. Then plant them. They will not sprout.
It is a mystery. The rays of the Sun have life. The rays give life [pranam] giving nature.
Secondly without Sun's rays no food can be prepared in the nature. Food is again life sustaining material to the living things. Food gives energy, builds body, rejuvenates all the living things.
Thirdly sun is the cause for air to blow.
Fourthly sun avaporates water into vapour which forms a cloud. This cloud gives us rain. The rain causes life to come up again.
Fifthly sun is the cause for photosynthesis. Photosynthesis leads to formation of food.
Sixthly photosynthesis maintains Oxygen balance in the nature.
Seventhly if there is no sun there is life on the earth.
That is why all the other gods are created gods. They are good for minting money.
All the temples are business centres.
