PROVERBS -- 4

PROVERBS  --  4

PROVERBS  ARE  SHORT SENTENCES, DRAWN FROM LONG EXPERIENCE.

1.      Sweet are the uses of adversity.
EXPLANATION
Adversity is such thing man has to face lot many insults, un and downs in life, no prestige, and many other things. If he is of weak heart, he may lose the war of life. If he is strong he can learn from his adversity and tries to come up in life.  Adversity enables one to meet his friend and also foe. It teaches how to behave in this world and the ways of this world.  If the man learns, rectifies himself and be updated with the latest trends of this world, life become sweet and sweeter.
EXAMPLE
Abraham Lincoln was born in a very poor family. He was the son of a carpenter. He studied under street lights.  His aim was to become the president of USA. He lost the elections 10 times but he did not give up. Eleventh time he was successful. He proved himself one of the greatest presidents of USA.

2.      A bad workman blames his tools.
Explanation:
Tools can only complement the skill of a worker. If the worker lacks the basic skills and is inefficient, they will not be of any use to him. He, who is unskilled, will blame some or the other drawback in the tools.  He always feels his inefficiency if  he cannot use the tools. Admittance of  his inefficiency indicates his transparent behaviour.
Example:
Ours Chief Election Commissioner knew how best to use his power tools. He was the first CEC to effectively use his powers and conduct the elections perfectly well.
KPS Gill, a powerful cop knew well how to be a perfect cop. He eliminated terrorism from Punjab.

3.      Honesty is the best policy.
The lives of greatest men and women whom we remember everyday are very honest in their lives. They made lives trustworthy, transparent and committed to the work of their choice. Honest people are revered anywhere in the world.
We have Satya Hari Chandra, vallabhai Patel, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Mother Teresa and many other remembered for their honesty and truthfulness.
Once Gandhiji was writing exams. He could not write. The teacher asked him to copy from the other boy’s answer sheet. Gandhiji refused to do so.
Swami Vivekanad’s honesty in imparting knowledge ignited millions of minds not only in India but all over the world.
We all know the story of a woodcutter. While cutting a tree, the axe fell into a tank from his hand. An angel appeared with a golden axe. He said no. then the angel came with a silver axe. He said no. Then the angel came with his original axe. He said yes. Then the angel appreciated his honesty and donated all the three axes.

4.      All that glitters is not gold.
Glass glitters but it cannot be a diamond. A good and attractive packing cannot be surety for the quality of item inside. Bombay city is highly economic oriented but not a peaceful place. Movies are thrilling and exciting but are virtual.
Now- a - days in TV channels, the participants wear gorgeous dresses and behave in fine manner. But behind those dresses, what lies in their mind we cannot understand. Their criminal attitudes also are beyond our understanding.
ND Tiwari , who was the Governor of A.P., an 80 years old man, who  should be very exemplary to others, behaved in such a mean manner, it surprised one and all.  He was a womanizer. Nobody imagined about it.
The Germans praised Hitler a lot. He got  the power. But nobody imagined that he would  be the cause for second world war.
So we should never come to a conclusion seeing the external appearance of a person or a thing.

5.      Rome was not built in a day.
This proverb is to show that everything is possible only in a gradual development. Success of anything is not possible with a small mantra or action, but  only through a continuous  struggle towards reaching goal.
The life of a man starts with unicellular organism called zygote. Zygote develops into
foetus. The foetus grows into a baby. After delivery the struggle of the baby starts. He should be fed by mother. Then slowly he crawls. He tries to get up. Getting up he tries to stand steadily.   After that he tries to walk and later walks. In this way the life from womb to tomb is an ever evolving process. It does not take place all of a sudden. It is a continuous process of development.
Calcutta, which was only a village in 1757, slowly developed and developed into a large cosmopolitan city today.
Computer started with vacuum tubes, in the size of a hall. Man used to work sitting inside a computer. After vacuum tubes, came semiconductors. After semiconductors came Integrated Circuits. After ICs came chips and so on.  Such a huge computer came to the size of palm-top. This is the work of hundreds of scientists working together towards new horizons of technology.
Newton said, “I can see far, because I stand on the shoulders of my ancestors.”

6.      A stitch in time saves nine.
This proverb warns us not postpone anything that can be done today. Gandhiji said, do tomorrow’s work today and today’s work right now.
In 1948, when the Nizam handed over Telangana to Indian Union, it should have been made into a state. That was not done that time. As result, Telangana agitation is continuing.
A student who neglects studying all through the year faces a lot of syllabus at the time of examination. He may not write the examination properly. As a result he loses a academic year.
Somebody who is hurt in an accident, and gets one hand cut. If he is brought immediately or within one hour to hospital, with the cut-part, it can be stitched to him. He can regain his limb.  Otherwise he loses his lifelong.
As no proper action was taken on Jammu & Kashmir, it became a burning ghat till now.
When Hitler was turning entire Germany into a manufacturing unit for producing arms, no action was taken against him by the biggest countries then. Its result was second world war.

7.      As you sow, so you shall reap.
If  we plant a mango seed, we  get mango plant only. We can never get an apple tree.
Pakistan nourished terrorism. Now it is the same terrorists who are devastating Pakistan.
If parents bring up children with hatred they also grow with full of hatred. Later they may become unwanted  criminals in the society.
In Cuba, Fidel Castro,  who had great vision came to power in 1959. He dedicated his life in building Cuba. Today we can see Cuba well developed in all aspects.
A lazy person, who wastes his life, cannot be anything in his life.
If we want to grow a beautiful garden, we have to be very careful in selecting plants; in using manure; in weeding out; and trimming plants. Otherwise, instead of garden it can be anything.
A farmer who wants to have good harvest, prepares land for sowing seeds, refines seeds, sows seeds, and when plants come up, he protects them from all sorts of pests and other unwanted things. This way he will be looking after his crop. Finally comes a good harvest.
